In recent months, illegal activity in apartments rented through AirBnB or Booking has increased significantly in Tirana, which are mainly located in apartment blocks and in densely populated areas.
The most recent case was the exploitation of 44 Colombian girls for prostitution in apartments rented on the Airbnb platform, as well as earlier a girl held hostage in the Astir area where she and a group of girls and boys had consumed narcotics.
Expert Fation Softa says that for people who rent out apartments and engage in criminal activity there should be criminal prosecution, up to and including seizure of the premises.
"These structures must be registered. Secondly, the administrators of the buildings who must inform should be held responsible. The one who uses this structure should be held legally responsible, that is, the owner of that structure that provides this and how there should be a register. There should be a legal obligation to inform about the activity they do and in cases where their activity is illegal, meaning that the place, the nephew or the responsibilities they have are undeclared, then legal measures should be taken, starting from blocking the activity, from criminal proceedings against them and why not if they use it as a prostitution center, to look at the possibility of seizing their apartment. So legal pressure should be increased ," Softa told "A2 CNN".
But should prostitution be legalized in our country? Expert Softa is not sure if this solves the problem but says there needs to be more control, not only over the territory, but also at the Border Points.
"Today prostitutes come, tomorrow terrorist groups may come. So in the way of controlling the entry-exit system at Border Points, it definitely needs to be more controlled. Then whether this phenomenon should be disciplined or legalized, I am not able to express myself because I would immediately have to take someone's side or someone else's side without wanting to, I say that there should be a referendum ," he said.
