While Albania is facing unstoppable emigration in recent years, studies show the economic costs of these departures. And they are not only in the reduction of births, the reduction of the population or the shortages in the labor market, which are also the most visible effects. The damage is also calculated on the investment made in a person until he reaches the age for emigration, and here the costs of education, health, etc., which society pays for him, are included.
According to a recent study, the education of an Albanian citizen, depending on the level of education he has completed, costs around 6,000 euros for primary school; 9,300 euros for secondary school; about 18,300 euros for academic studies and about 32 thousand euros for doctoral studies.

But how much does each citizen who leaves the country to emigrate cost the economy?
According to studies, this damage is estimated at 14,900 euros per person and the total loss is considerable if we consider the high number of immigrants and the emigration that continues at a strong and unstoppable pace in recent years.

On the other hand, the benefit of immigration is remittances from immigrants, otherwise known as remittances.
These foreign exchange flows reached a record level of 929 million euros last year, while at the end of the first half of this year they reached 510 million euros, signaling that they will continue to grow.

But despite their considerable weight, their contribution to the economy is not great. This is because remittances are mainly used for personal consumption and less for investments, without giving any great impact on development. /A2 CNN
