Minor immigrants! The latest report reveals the figures: Most of the Albanians

Of the Albanians detained at the border who have not been allowed to travel, most are under the age of 18, reveals the latest migration report for 4 years 2019-2022.

The peak was marked in 2019 with about 13 thousand detained minors, a figure which has suffered a significant decrease until 2022 by 55%. But compared to 2021, a significant increase has been seen in 2022, from 4,000 children to around 6,500 detained minors.

Meanwhile, the data of the General Directorate of Borders and Migration highlight as one of the main channels of irregular immigration the abandonment of children, leaving them in the host countries and the return of their parents to Albania, a phenomenon which has increased the number of unaccompanied child immigrants. .

Regarding the countries from which unaccompanied minors have returned in 4 years, almost half 46% have returned from Germany; 23% from France and 7.5%; from Great Britain, Italy and Greece respectively.

However, referring to the data of the Ministry of Education and Sports, a decrease in the number of registrations in pre-university education of returned children is observed, from year to year.

In the 2019-2020 school year, more than 1,013 children who returned from emigration were enrolled in schools, a year later 24% were enrolled with a little over 796 students; while for the 2022-2023 school year, only 661 students were registered, which means 42% less than in 2019.

The approved national migration profile foresees that school-aged returnees are treated with priority and are facilitated for inclusion in the education system.

At each stage of the school year, the local pre-university education offices collect the school documents they bring with them and register them at school.

When necessary, they are also supported with individual programs for the Albanian language and for special subjects. In VKM, it is recommended to prevent the phenomenon of irregular migration from Albania, by providing information on the risks associated with irregular migration, and the involvement of the local government in the coordinating and monitoring structures for migratory issues is required./TCH
