Electoral crimes, Karamuço reveals messages received from 12 candidates

Ervin Karamuço, a criminalist expert, while speaking about electoral crimes, revealed the messages he received from at least 12 candidates for MPs from various parties in the May 11 elections.

Invited to the Review show on Euronews Albania, Karamuço said that the Criminal Code is poor in relation to these crimes, while speaking very concerned about several messages that had come to his cell phone, where various candidates were asking for votes.

Karamuço also called these messages an electoral crime and a betrayal of people because they violate privacy and it is not known how the data is used.

"We have a problem that in the still unchanged penal code that we currently have, we have very poor provisions regarding electoral crime. We know for ourselves, those purchased standards, who bought it, the commissioners left with the stamp, this withdrawal that, but this reality that we are affecting especially after 2021 that culminated in 2025. And that message that comes to me from a deputy or candidate that I don't know at all and says 'look here, you will vote for me', using my personal data is an electoral crime. I am at peace and I don't want to be fooled by these things. You don't have to use my number without permission, but only when I give permission. I have about 10-12 messages, which are the ones that I can't answer, where did I tell you, where did you find my phone number", said Karamuço.

Karamuço said that the campaign was peaceful and without serious incidents and was well managed by state police structures.

"We have had a calm and well-managed campaign by the police. With the capacities we have, there has been no aggression between the candidates and their supporters. There have been no physical clashes or serious incidents, I'm not talking about electoral crimes, vote buying, etc.," said Karamuço.
