What happens if Iran launches a missile towards the Balkans? Karamuço

Security expert Ervin Karamuço has spoken about the possible scenario of a missile launch from Iran towards the Balkans and how the defense system would function.

According to him, in the event that a ballistic missile is launched from Iran towards the region without a clear destination, Romania would be the main center for its interception in the southwestern Balkans.

Karamuço explained that once a missile is identified, Romania gives the alarm signal, while the coordination of the operation is carried out by Germany, which decides which defense system will be used to neutralize the threat.

Meanwhile, Spain has a monitoring role for the Mediterranean area, following developments and the missile's possible trajectory.

In this process, NATO's anti-ballistic batteries are activated, which aim to intercept and neutralize the missile before it reaches its target.

According to the security expert, the air defense system in the region is coordinated and constantly updated to cope with such scenarios.

"If a missile is launched from Iran towards the Balkans without a clear destination, the main center for its interception in the southwestern Western Balkans is Romania. As soon as a missile is launched, Romania gives the signal. Germany is the coordinator for the launch of the attack, while Spain monitors the situation in the Mediterranean. Anti-ballistic batteries are activated. Germany decides which one will launch the missiles to neutralize the incoming ballistics and disrupt the attack scenario. That's all. There is an extraordinary defense and all systems are constantly updated," Karamuço told "Euronews Albania".
