Measles in Albania, parents are made aware; doctor: Fear is increasing

After the appearance of measles in our country, it seems that the parents who had not given the MMR vaccine to their children were scared, now also under pressure from the nurseries and kindergartens, they went to the consultation centers to vaccinate their children.

"The child is three years old, he has not been vaccinated because he had viruses ," said a parent.

"I'm doing it because they ask me at the nursery school ", say the parents.

The first dose of the vaccine that protects against measles and rubella should be given as soon as the child turns 12 months old, as it is assumed that until that age the child enjoys immunity from the breast milk received from the mother, after which this immunity declines. While the second booster dose is given at the age of 5.

"There is an awareness among parents these days. Last week we did 100 first doses and 60 second doses", says doctor Erma Cobaj.

Measles is a highly contagious disease and in unvaccinated children it causes high fever, damage to the brain membrane and loss of life. This disease also affects vaccinated children, but they pass the disease easily.
