Nine police officers in Gjirokastër have been suspended from duty, as they are suspected of being involved in migrant trafficking.
It was the prosecution that, within the framework of the investigations, discovered that the police favored the traffic of immigrants from the Middle East. The investigation started after the information that some police officers in cooperation transported immigrants caught from third countries from Gjirokastër District to the territory of Delvina Municipality, then releasing them in violation of the legal acts in force.
The investigations have shown that in some cases, after leaving the emigrants in the Delvina area, they were transported against profit by other people, or they traveled inside the Albanian territory.
