The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, spoke at the UN Security Council on the Palestine-Israel conflict.
As it has become clear, Albania is positioned on the side of Israel. Hasani said that Albania supports Israel in its legitimate right to self-defense.
" We believe there is a way to ensure Israel's security and defense. Every precaution must be taken to avoid harming civilians. Hamas expected the world to turn against Israel, but we should not be fooled. Albania condemns any legitimization or glorification of terrorist attacks. Hamas' purpose is not to protect the Palestinians, their actions do not represent them. Palestinians must be the first to oppose acts of terror. Hamas is denying them their present, stealing their future, and we are concerned by an alarming rise in anti-Semitic sentiment. We must not remain indifferent to the calls coming from the Nazi narrative. We must react against all those who fan the flames of division and discrimination ," he said.
Hasani further stated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is dramatic. He condemned the attack on Al-Ahli hospital and called for a full investigation of those responsible.
" We welcome the agreements for the passage of humanitarian convoys to Gaza. The needs are many times higher, but the efforts must continue. Humanitarian aid to civilians must continue unhindered. We welcome the release of the hostages through assistance. The spread of the conflict that would tense the entire Middle East must be avoided. We condemn Hezbollah's attacks on Israel, call on them to refrain from unprovoked actions. Provocative rhetoric does not help to convey messages of care and responsibility. Israel needs and deserves security, the Palestinians need and deserve their own state. The issue of Palestine must not continue to remain an unfinished business. Albania reiterates its support for both nations, for both states. Albania supports the draft resolution of the USA, which deals with all relevant issues ", said Hasani in the Security Council, among other things.
