Journalist Osman Stafa has caught the Minister of Health, Evis Sala, "offensive", publicly asking her why there is a shortage of medicines for patients suffering from serious illnesses, while the minister tried to justify the situation with the measures that, according to her, are being taken to supply medicines.
During a press conference held on the reform of the oncology service at the national level, Stafa raised concerns about the lack of some important medications at the Oncology Hospital.
"Medicines are currently in short supply in Oncology. Two medications are not available: Abiraterone, where prostate patients have been without therapy for two months, while Folinic Acid is bought as a drug on the street ," the journalist said.
In response, Minister Sala said that measures have been taken to guarantee the sustainability of the supply of medicines. According to her, teams are on standby to address emergency situations related to patients.
She also added that work is underway to draft standardized treatment protocols according to European Union practices, with the aim of ensuring a more sustainable supply of medicines in the future.
"We have taken several measures for the stability of the supply of medicines. The team is always on alert to address acute situations for patients, but a permanent solution is needed.
We have also worked on very good protocols so that the treatment lines are standardized according to the EU, this ensures that we have a stable supply ," the minister replied.
