Journalist Esmeralda Mulaj and analyst Blerim Gashi argued after the latter paralleled the situation in the north of Kosovo with Himara regarding the recognition of the elections.
During an interview in Euronews Albania, the moderator objected to such a comment, insisting that it is wrong to compare the north with Himara when a parallel cannot be removed between the two countries.
Excerpts from the conversation:
Mulaj: Escobar said it himself, we recognized Kosovo's independence, we stood by its side, we helped in its independence, we recognized the elections even though with 3%, what we asked was not to put them in buildings in order not to create a situation of tension in the north where it is known that many interests clash there.
Gashi: In this case, I will mention one part of the analysis so that we can understand the situation. Tomorrow the United States of America can stand up and say we recognize the elections in Himara as legitimate even though the Greek community in Himara has decided not to participate due to sabotage and the influence of Greek policies.
Mulaj: Now please do not compare Himara with the north of Kosovo because it is a fatal mistake and there is no connection. I did not compare Enver Hoxha with Albin Kurti, but I compared the isolation we lived in with what you are claiming that you can survive without the United States of America, but Himara has no parallel with the north of Kosovo.
Gashi: There are parallels that you have a Greek community, fortunately Greece is not Serbia, it is not a hegemony.
Mulaj: There is a Greek minority, but there are no Greeks who neither administer, nor govern, nor run Himara. There have always been Albanians.
Gashi: We assume, we do not dispute that she is not Albanian. Here is the argument of Mr. Kurti and the Kosovar government, they are not Serbian municipalities, they are Kosovar municipalities.
Mulaj: Yes, but we have no international administration, we have neither KFOR nor UMNIK.
Gashi: We don't have international administration either. The Republic of Kosovo has been independent since 2008.
Mulaj: Yes, KFOR protects the borders.
Gashi: It is protecting our external sovereignty, but we also have our army by law.
