The Union of Albanian Journalists has reacted after the scandal where the judge Armela Hasantari released the barbaric abuser against the journalist and editor of "Pamflet", Gjergj Zefi.
The Union of Journalists states that the decision of judge Hasantari, where according to her the rapist Renato Boduri is released due to lack of evidence, is disappointing and compromising.
According to the Union of Journalists, this case is alarming for the safety of journalists.
" The release of the rapist Renato Boduri by the judge of the Court of Tirana, who hit the journalist Gjergj Zefi in the most thuggish way on October 3 of this year, has caused disappointment and surprise for journalists and our professional organization.
His bandit act on the journalist Zefi shocked public opinion and was read as an organized attack on the media and journalists who report on crime and its structures. The person in question is known for precedents which have been reported at different times.
His attack on the journalist, leaving him unconscious in the middle of the road while he was leaving his newsroom, is a serious case. The State Police bodies, after several attempts, made the arrest possible and the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana requested his arrest for the criminal offense "Assault due to duty", referred to Article 237/5.
The judge's decision, according to which the person is released for lack of evidence, is disappointing. The authentic video evidence of the event and other statements have been the "stubborn evidence" of the truth of the event and the perpetrator now unpunished.
However, such decisions add to the disillusionment with justice and its confrontation with crime and its structures.
The Union of Albanian Journalists denounces this decision not to punish the journalist's abuser, as an alarming case for the safety of journalists and reporters in general. We appeal to the institutions and organizations that protect the freedom of the media and the safety of journalists to follow this case and the further progress of this process. "- said in response.
The rapist Renato Bodurri was caught by the police a few days ago, after being wanted for a long time, seizing as evidence the car in which he left a few moments after the barbaric attack on journalist Zefi.
The police have sent all the materials to the prosecutor's office, which requested Bodurr's arrest and imprisonment. But the judge, Armela Hasantari, has forced the appearance, as according to her there is not enough evidence.
