Journalist Erl Murati spoke about Saturday's police action, which culminated in the shutdown of the "News 24" television broadcast signal.
He stated that the media group, located in the premises of the former auto tractor factory, was arbitrarily closed by the state, considering such an action as an impersonal battle, more than a battle against speech and freedom of expression.
All this war, according to journalist Murati, comes because TV News24 has recently denounced many corruption scandals and crime in the country.
"This is a state action that, bypassing every rule, aimed to hit and silence a media group. It doesn't happen in any EU country ," Murati said, among other things.
The journalist also said that everything is planned. According to him, this war with this media group did not start yesterday because the way it was done shows that there is some kind of premeditation, not simply to take 2 buildings but to silence the voice of a media group.
"I have worked for 18 years in this media group. The concern is that a serious voice has now been temporarily silenced arbitrarily and unannounced by the state. This is not a personal battle between Hysenbelli and Rama, it is a battle against the media group. They have been arbitrarily closed by the state.
War on free speech and freedom of expression. News24 does not deserve the Pulitzer Prize for investigative journalism, but there are many affairs that have been denounced on this TV. They have dealt with serious topics recently, the situation of crime and corruption, the government aims not simply to hit a company but to extinguish the serious media of the media group.
It is a situation that includes not only the employees of the media group. It is not a personal conflict. The media, free speech, media institutions that have clearly not been under the control of the government in recent years have been attacked. The intention was to also attack businesses that served as support for this media company. This is a state action that, bypassing every rule, aimed to attack and silence a media group.
It doesn't happen in any EU country, we aim to go to the EU. It can't happen to Rai or the BBC, the police go and saw off the broadcasting antennas. There are ways to do this.
We are dealing with selectivity. There are hundreds of warehouses and military facilities where this company can establish its activity, there is a residential area, they are tens of meters away, I doubt that the day will come when we will produce 'Made in Albania' ammunition there. It is an artifice to speak on behalf of the state.
"It's not something, a bolt from the blue. I suspected it could happen when it was decided that the military firm's premises would be in the offices of News24. It's premeditated. This war with this media group didn't start yesterday. The way it was done shows that there is some kind of premeditated plan, not simply to take 2 buildings but to silence the voice of a media group. It's not a precedent only with News24, but also with other media and in the countries of Southeast Europe ," he said.
