Security expert Fatjon Softa has commented on the robbery that occurred at a bank on Kavaja Street, linking the incident to ongoing deficiencies in the security system.
Invited to the show "Quo Vadis", he recalled that a few months ago he had warned about the risk of such events, after the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja in the courtroom. According to him, the lack of reforms in security structures creates the ground for repeated episodes.
Softa described the robbery as worrying and stressed that every such case is a test for banking security. He noted that timely police intervention averted more serious consequences.
According to him, the problem is related to the functioning of the security system in banks and the implementation of the Bank of Albania's regulations. He also mentioned previous cases of bank robberies and attacks on money transport vans, including events on the Tirana-Rina axis and other areas of the country.
Softa raised concerns about the lack of effective controls at the banks' entrance and weaknesses in preventive mechanisms.
During the discussion, he reiterated that without structural changes to the security system, similar events will be repeated. He called for a review of protective measures and more rigorous implementation of standards for financial institutions.
According to him, the reaction after events is not enough if it is not accompanied by concrete interventions in the system.
"Every robbery is a test of bank security. If the police had not been notified in time, more complicated situations could have arisen. What failed was the security system. There have been cases of bank and van robberies. The robbery on the Tirana-Rina axis, as well as on other axes of the country, shows that the functioning according to the BoA regulation has shortcomings and this shows that the system is weak. How can you enter with a Kalashnikov and there is no security at the doors?" - said Softa on the show "Quo Vadis".
