A strong denunciation has been made public by journalist Osman Stafa, who raises serious concerns about the way patients with neurological emergencies are treated at the "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center.
According to Staff, at the Hospital of Neurosurgery and Neurology, clashes are occurring between doctors or healthcare personnel regarding the referral of patients who need thrombectomy, a vital intervention in cases of stroke.
According to the complaint, there are five public sector doctors in Albania capable of performing thrombectomy. However, the question arises as to why this procedure is not performed in public hospitals and why some of the state doctors perform the procedure in the private sector.
" It's scary what's happening at the (private) Hospital of Neurosurgery and Neurology. Doctors, or health personnel, are fighting over who should refer thrombectomy patients to the private sector first to get the percentage. This is not medicine! This is stealing from patients, putting their lives at risk. There are 5 people in Albania, public doctors who perform thrombectomy procedures. Why don't they do it in the state? Why do some state doctors do it in the private sector and not do the procedure in the state? According to my sources at the "stroke unit" at the QSUT, a patient is currently in a life-or-death situation. The patient, MP, needs arteriography (Dsa), but the equipment that exists is not working. The patient's family has been told that either she risks dying or take her to the private sector. This choice is scary! There is no money for this case! How can I do it! What about the other cases that don't have money, how can they do it? ", writes the journalist.
