Former prosecutor Elizabeta Imeraj has spoken about criminality in Albania. Imeraj emphasized that recently order and security have not been at maximum criteria, underlining that criminal groups must be dismantled.
She further underlined that crime has gained ground and is not sparing even ordinary citizens.
"The state of criminality in Albania is massive. And if we refer to the recent actions, in one day, over 200 arrested, it does not prove that there are simply arrested distributors, but it proves that there are, on the other hand, many suppliers of these distributors who find country and those suppliers and they have found a way to bring the narcotics from abroad and this has been allowed in. There are several moments that are connected to each other and prove that the state of criminality is disturbing.
If we refer to the last few months, public order and security have not been at maximum criteria. Areas such as Lezhë, Rrëshen, are places where the climate in general leads you to conclude that it is a situation that has left free ground for criminality to develop. The criminal group that was involved and Artan Tafani had an extension in different cities of Albania. In this context it is dangerous. And it becomes more dangerous when the public finds out that this criminal group has also tried to kill a prosecutor. Citizens are the same. As long as crime finds such a climate, this is something that contains alarm ," she said to Euronews.
