The Tirana court sentenced the former RENEA force officer, Remal Rada, to 7 years and 9 months in prison on charges of illegal possession of weapons.
Rada was arrested with a sniper rifle in the car in the Sauk area. While Elton Hikthi, who was in the vehicle with the former RENEA officer, was sentenced to 5 years. They will benefit from a reduction of the sentence by one third after being tried with a summary trial.
The former officer of the RENEA Forces, Rada, was arrested on July 26, together with 28-year-old Elton Hithi, after a sniper was found in the car, modified for shooting at a distance of up to 2,000 meters. Earlier, Rada resigned from the RENEA department, and opened a laundry business.
During the search of his apartment, a pistol, two night binoculars, military ammunition (an automatic weapon magazine, 2 pistol combs) were found.
The former soldier insisted that he was innocent and that he was simply passionate about weapons and symbols. As for the weapons, he said that he had no information about their presence and that this was a trap, because he thought that there were clothes ordered in England in the package.
