The Tirana municipality website, Tirana.al, was attacked and taken offline by the Iranian hacker network "Homeland Justice", the same ones that carried out the major cyberattack in 2022 against online state services in our country.
This sophisticated group of hackers admitted to being behind the attack in a post on the Telegram application, linking it to the support that the Albanian government gives to the Mujahideen, the organization that fights the secular-authoritarian regime of Tehran and that has been sheltering since 2013 in its headquarters in Manzë, Durrës.
The Municipality's website also offers the service of registering children in kindergartens and nurseries, a process that was supposed to be completed on June 22, but was suspended due to the attack. The General Directorate of Nurseries and Kindergartens says it will soon inform about the deadline for postponing applications.
"We inform you that due to a problem with the servers of the Municipality of Tirana, the link to the Application Platform for the Registration of Children in Public Nurseries and Kindergartens e-femijet tirana.al is not functional. In this context, the application process will be suspended until the moment the platform is functional. We will inform you later when the platform will be functional again and on the extension of the application deadline", announces the General Directorate of Nurseries and Kindergartens.
Following Iran's cyberattacks on state online services, the Albanian government decided to sever diplomatic relations with Iran and expel its diplomatic personnel from the country.
In June 2023, on the orders of SPAK, the police raided the Mujahideen camp in Manza, provoking a fierce reaction from this community. The suspicion was that this organization was using the camp as a base to carry out cyber attacks against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
