The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime has sent former President Ilir Meta, his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi, the latter's mother Fatime Kryemadhi, Pirro Xhixho and Ema Çoku for trial, as part of the investigation into corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets in the CEZ-DIA affair and lobbying in the US.
The SPAK investigation began in 2019 and expanded in subsequent years based on various reports, which were merged into a single one in 2024.

The former President is accused of passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials, money laundering, and failure to declare assets.
His ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi is accused of passive corruption of senior state officials in 2 cases, money laundering and failure to declare assets.
Pirro Xhixho is also accused of passive corruption of high-ranking officials committed in collaboration.
Meanwhile, Monika Kryemadhi's mother, Fatime Kryemadhi, is accused of money laundering, along with Ema Çoku.
SPAK reports that investigations have revealed that Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi, by exploiting their political power and influence, have favored certain businesses in exchange for monetary benefits.
Documented episodes show the above 5 defendants have collaborated in corruption and money laundering cases.
To complete this file, SPAK says it has collaborated with authorities in the US, Austria, Italy, San Marino and Cyprus.
