Journalist Artan Hoxha has brought to light the murder of banker Artan Santo, which occurred 12 years ago in Tirana, raising suspicions that the event may have had a political background.
Invited to the "Occult" podcast with Alfred Cako, broadcast on Top Channel's YouTube channel, Hoxha focused on the importance of Santos' figure in the banking system and the circumstances that, according to him, make this murder unusual.
According to the journalist, Santos' position and influence in the financial world, as well as his connections to state structures, may have created conflicts of interest related to political and economic developments of the time.
Hoxha also stressed that political reactions following the event and the bank's relations with the governments of the time may have influenced the way the case was handled, adding that such events often remain unsolved when large interests are involved.
He also raised the issue of the lack of mention of this event on its anniversary, as well as the manner of execution, which according to him shows the professionalism of the perpetrators.
"The murder of people like Artan Santo, who are so important in the world of money, of course we are dealing with a conspiracy, it was not an ordinary murder. The position, the status that Artan Santo enjoyed, the experience he had created, the connections, the fact that he was one of the few people in the banking system who was not guarded. He didn't even have an armored car, he only had one driver and that driver was old. It showed that he had a great deal of security in what he was doing, or at least that's what he thought. He would go out by the lake, run freely, go out on weekends. He was not a man who was guarded. The fact that he led this kind of life, there was a guarantee. You have to have a guarantee when you deal with that.
Immediately after the murder, important politicians we have reacted. I know that there was a very big debate, with Berisha at that time. From a bank that had very strong ties to the right-wing government, it had turned into a bank that had ties to the incoming government at that time, because it was by nature like a bank. It cannot function otherwise. You could not confront the government, because you would lose all the privileges you had. You were the person who paid the state's salaries.
