At 08:30, at the Palace of Congresses in Tirana, tributes began in honor of former Prime Minister Fatos Nano, who passed away at the age of 73, after several weeks in serious condition in the hospital.
In the lobby of the Palace of Congresses, the close family members of the historic leader of the Socialists received condolences from dozens of citizens who came from all over the country.
From 08:30 to 11:15, the tributes will be public, where every citizen can pay their last respects to the historic leader of the Albanian left.
Wreaths and bouquets have been placed at the former prime minister's coffin, while as seen in the photo, in the first row of condolences are placed, in order, the former prime minister's wife, Xhoana Nano, his two children from his marriage to his first wife Rexhina Nano, Xhoana's son and ex-wife Rexhina. Then his close associates are seen.
Some of Fatos Nano's politicians or former close associates have also chosen to attend the public tributes.
Arben Malaj, Elmaz Sherifi, Spartak Braho, former SP MPs, Erion Braçe, SP MP, but also Fatmir Mediu and Agron Duka, and Democratic MP, Arjan Ndoja, were among the first politicians to pay homage in honor of the former Prime Minister.
The Albanian diplomatic corps and political figures will honor Nano's figure in the second part of the ceremony.
At the end of the state ceremony, Prime Minister Edi Rama, Fatos Nano's successor at the helm of the Socialist Party, will deliver a speech, followed by Nano's wife, Xhoana, and son Sokoli.
Fatos Nano will be escorted to his final resting place after a private family ceremony.
Fatos Nano passed away yesterday afternoon at the age of 73. He had been suffering from chronic respiratory problems for a long time, and his health had deteriorated significantly.
Three-time Prime Minister of Albania, Fatos Nano will be remembered as one of the most important figures of the transition, as the man who reformed the Socialist Party and a leader with a vision for the future of Albania.
