The government's decision to increase pensions through monthly bonuses comes into effect from the beginning of this year. Prime Minister Edi Rama announced earlier that the increase will be monthly according to different categories of pensioners.
Beneficiaries in the city will receive an additional 1,800 lek per month, 800 lek/month for partial urban pensions, 1,000 lek per month for rural pensions, 700 lek per month for family pensions and 600 lek for disability pensions. This new scheme aims to fulfill the government's commitment to bring the minimum pension in the country to 20,000 lek and the average pension in the city to 40,000 lek.
But what will a pensioner who currently receives 27 thousand lek per month actually benefit from?
In 2029, he will receive 40 thousand lek per month. Even for the pension derived from contributions in the village, an individual who today receives 11 thousand lek, after 4 years he will have a monthly pension of 18 thousand lek.
Today, about 730 thousand individuals are beneficiaries of the social contribution scheme, whose number increases every year by 15 thousand pensioners. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy and Innovation has announced that within 2026, the pension scheme is expected to be reformed with the aim of increasing sustainability and profitability.
