The rape of the former leader of the Democratic Party of Albania in Lezha, Artan

Journalist Artan Hoxha commented on the serious incident of the rape of Sokol Toma, former chairman of the Democratic Party in the administrative unit of Dajçi in Lezha.

In his analysis, Hoxha emphasized that the event has several disturbing layers, such as the way it was organized and the fact that the victim represents a figure with status in the area.

The journalist compared the act to reminiscences of the past, citing similar behavior to the Kanun period, where rape and mutilation were used as a form of shame. According to him, this type of action today is even more serious than murder itself, as it aims to humiliate the victim and send a message of social intimidation.

He added that the circumstances and motives are still unclear, so it is too early to go into details, but the action itself shows a high level of brutality and intent to publicly discredit.

"First, it is a serious act, because we are dealing with the kidnapping and rape of a person, even on a national road. Those who have done this are not just anyone, because such an action requires a decision and organization. Second, a person who represents something has been taken, has a status in that area, even from his past. Third, the way the event occurred is very serious. Therefore, I do not want to go into details, because it is still early and the dynamics of the investigations are developing, while the motives are not clear. This type of action reminds me of the period when there was no state and the canon was in effect, where mutilations, ear cutting or bodily harm occurred to shame the other. As an act, it is more serious than murder, because it does not only aim at physical elimination, but also at public humiliation of the person. In those cases, the goal is for the victim not to be killed immediately, but to suffer shame and for the whole society to find out what happened to him. This logic of 'discrediting' is very heavy.

They are reminiscences of the past that we unfortunately still see today, but with more sophisticated methods. In this case, we have a kidnapping, rape and mutilation that aims to give the message that 'the bullet is not enough for you'. This is an extreme form of discrediting. I do not want to go into the motives, because it is still too early to talk. The victim herself has stated that there are no conflicts, but the event must be investigated to the end and the perpetrators must be brought to justice. On the other hand, these events also show the responsibility of the state, because when they happen in this way and on the open road, they are very serious and create a precedent. Investigations are continuing, cameras have been taken and the identification of the vehicles is being carried out, but there are still no identified perpetrators. Unlike other cases that have been solved quickly, this case seems more complex. "If such an event is not clarified and there is no strong reaction from the state, then the situation becomes very serious, because it could create a precedent for other cases in the future ," Hoxha said on "Now" on Euronews.
