The second hearing on the merits against former President Ilir Meta was dominated by the statements of the SPAK prosecutor, who read in the courtroom evidence from the investigative file on the CEZ-DIA affair, LSI lobbying in the US, and Meta and Monika Kryemadhi's relationships with businessman Ardian Shatku and former DIA administrator Kastriot Ismailaj.
During the presentation of evidence, prosecutor Sotir Kllapi stated that the investigations have identified intensive communications between Ilir Meta and Kastriot Ismailaj.
" Meta has admitted that he knows Kastriot Ismailaj, he has intense messages. In 2009, Meta sent him an SMS and wrote: 'I want 200' ," the SPAK prosecutor declared in the courtroom.
According to the indictment, Meta and Kryemadhi have intervened in the interests of businessman Ardian Shatku in the fiber optic sector and in the CEZ-DIA case.
" Meta and Kryemadhi have undertaken to exert pressure on the CEZ-DIA issue so that Ardian Shatku's company enters the market. There are continuous communications, Meta's meetings in Morocco and the USA. Regarding fibers, Shatku has had an interest in carrying out fiber laying activities in Albania ," said the prosecutor.
SPAK claims that the Meta-Kryemadhi couple has also exerted influence on state institutions to favor Shatku's company.
" Monika and Ilir Meta are committed to introducing Shatku's company to the market. They influenced Haxhinasto to issue order no. 1814, dated March 20, 2015, amending the previous order for the extension of fiber ," the prosecutor said.
Communications were also read in the courtroom that, according to SPAK, are related to the negotiation of contracts and the economic interests involved in this case.
" Kryemadhi wrote to Shatku that 'we want the contract', implying that Meta also wants it. LSI has made agreements with several companies, reporting that that agreement lasted 1 year and 4 months, but in reality it was only one month, with a cost of 15 thousand dollars that went through the account. Kryemadhi used 234 thousand dollars from Ardian Shatku's cards ," said the prosecutor.
Meanwhile, the defense requested a live broadcast of the hearing, but the request was rejected by the court on the grounds that it could create "public and media pressure."
Monika Kryemadhi requested that the hearing be public, stating that "Albanians should see the evidence," while lawyers objected to the lack of broadcast, claiming that there is no legal basis for its ban.
SPAK has indicted Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi for corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets. Fatime Kryemadhi, Ema Çoku and former AKEP leader Pirro Xhixho are also involved in the process.
