Gilmando Dani was killed this Tuesday, November 11, in a mafia assassination attempt at the Rinas airport roundabout.

47-year-old Dani was a passenger in a white car. The driver of the car, identified as 40-year-old Muçi Shaljani alias Sheqeri, was seriously injured.

Criminalistics expert Ervin Karamuço said on "Ora e Fundit" that the group of assassins were well-organized and found a time when there were many people and traffic. The assassination was carried out in an area where there was no police patrol, and the roundabout was chosen because the speed is low, which helped them to shoot at the car where Dani was.

Karamuço added that behind this criminal event there is a dark criminal past, due to Gilmando Dani's criminal record, his connections with criminal groups. The expert added that the event is related to 2-3 criminal groups, also connected to other international groups. According to Karamuço, the police have tracked down a person, who has been taken as a suspect.

"This event occurred during the day, in an area where there should have been police. It happened by an elite unit, specialized in these attacks. This event was planned to happen last night, but because the flight from Barcelona was canceled, it happened today. It happened in the middle of the day, putting many citizens, customers and tourists at risk. The main target was the victim and the driver. The roundabout was chosen because the speed was lower there. Then they used a secondary road to go to Krujë, so they were well acquainted with the area. The police have tracked down a person who continued the pursuit, he has been identified, he has been taken as a suspect. After this event, he has a criminal past, with criminal and transnational groups," said Karamuço.

The forensic expert further said that information about the assassins may have also come from Spain.

"The police have suspicions that the information may have been obtained from Spain. On the other hand, they are going through all the airport cameras that may have followed them. There are many investigative aspects that are going through a large volume, to get to the evidence. So far, there is talk of three people, two shooters and a third who approached with a belt gun and shot the passenger at close range. These are elite groups that the state police will have problems with if they do not find and imprison them. We have had cases where former officers who were borrowed for such events have been taken," Karamuço said.
