Criminalistics expert Fatjon Softa, while analyzing the assassination attempt that occurred in Rinas, where Gilmando Dani was killed and Mustafa Sheqeri was injured, stated that the Director General of Police should be elected by Parliament.
Softa said that the Director General of Police should be elevated to the level of the Prosecutor General and the Ombudsman.
He also added that the Gendarmerie should be established in Albania, which will function alongside the State Police.
"The Director General of Police should receive votes in Parliament, reach the level of the Prosecutor General, the Ombudsman and several other levels, because it is better. The strategy in the fight against crime belongs to all parties, the political spectrum. Many EU countries, internal traffic is handled by the Municipal Police.
It frees the State Police from this work. If we have tired and overworked the Police, because they are heroes for this work… If this cannot increase the number of Police employees, then let's go back to a European model, let's switch to the Gendarmerie.
"The Police should depend on the Ministry of Interior and the Gendarmerie should depend on the Ministry of Defense. One is barracks life, the other is more civilian. All EU countries have it," Softa said, among other things.
