Aida Hajnaj, former director of BKH, requests to return to the police.
Hajnaj sent the request to the State Police immediately after her five-year mandate as head of the BKH ended, since the law provides for a return to duty at the director level at the police.
The High Prosecutorial Council, KLP, decided on September 9 to declare the mandate of the director of the National Bureau of Investigation, BKH, Aida Hajnaj, as terminated. After the report on the end of Hajnaj's legal mandate on August 31 was read in the council, it was also proposed to declare the end of the mandate on September 1. This proposal was rejected by six of the members of the KLP, chair Mirela Bogdani and members Ledina Riza, Arta Mandro, Zeqir Hoda, Erion Fejzulla and Vatë Staka, who decided to terminate the mandate on August 31. The minority members were Sokol Stojani, Erind Mërkuri, Erind Gërmenji and Olger Eminaj.
Currently, BKH remains without a leader, while the position of deputy leader is held by Joni Keta, who is also one of the seven candidates running for the position held by Hajnaj.
In April, the Special Prosecution Office, SPAK, initiated the reappointment procedure for Hajnaj as head of the BKH, after she expressed interest in a second 5-year term on March 28. However, on May 13, SPAK announced that Hajnaj would not be subject to the reappointment procedure, as although she expressed interest in a second term, she did not submit the required documentation within the deadline set by the Selection Commission. As a result, a new competition was opened for all interested parties.
Of the 13 candidates who applied for the position of director of the BKH, prosecutor Andi Pogaçe; two BKH investigators Elton Kërluku and Joni Keta; and State Police officials Gentian Ndoi, Gentian Shehaj and Gledis Nano qualified for the asset and cleanness of character verification phase.
