Caused 1.2 million euros in damage to the state, Tirana Court accepts Arlind

The Tirana court has accepted the request of the former general secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Arlind Gjokutaj, for the separation of the case for ordinary trial, while the other two, namely the bailiff Alban Ruli and Ilir Thana, requested a shortened trial, a request which was accepted.

The court also decided to accept the prosecution's request to dismiss the case against the legal director of the Ministry of Finance, Fatmir Hoxha.

The former general secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Arlind Gjokutaj, was arrested on the charge of abuse of office, while the security measure was changed twice from prison arrest to house arrest and then forced to appear.

The arrests came after the investigations against the citizen Ilir Thana, who is accused of fraud, while the officials of the ministry were investigated for actions taken in violation of the law, causing damage to the state budget in the amount of 1.2 million euros.

The case concerns a warehouse that the state sold to Ilir Thana in 1992, but the Property Restitution Commission took it 3 years later to pass it on to the real owners. After that, Thana was compensated in installments with the value of the property according to the market price. Ilir Thana received only 400,000 euros through the bank and the rest of the money would be transferred to him in the following months. In 2021, even though he had been compensated once, Ilir Thana, using the executors, reached the valuation of the property that was no longer his, up to the value of 1.2 million euros.
