The meeting of the Council of Mandates and Immunities has been taking place for more than 90 minutes, discussing SPAK's request regarding the lifting of immunity for Belinda Balluku, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, who has been suspended from duty.
In the meeting that began amid a debate between the majority and the opposition regarding how it should be conducted, open or closed to the public, Belinda Balluku's legal defenders are presenting their arguments because SPAK's request should not be accepted.
Reports indicate that Ardian Kaliaj, Balluk's lawyer, has asked SPAK to present facts and evidence because they are seeking the immunity of the suspended Deputy Prime Minister.
"The Assembly should reject SPAK's request. The prosecution has no evidence and facts on which to base its request for authorization from the Assembly to change the security measure. Belinda Balluku has respected the suspension measure ," said the lawyer.
He further states that " The prosecution has the obligation to prove the conditions under which Belinda Balluku is attempting to leave the country at a time when she is requesting replacement. She has implemented the measure and has not reported to duty. The lady has immediately submitted every personal document. We request the dismissal of the request."
