Journalist reports two people to the police; the parties give different versions of the causes of the conflict...
An incident occurred during yesterday's protest, the 22nd day that several thousand citizens are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. The incident took place in Skanderbeg Square, where according to reports, two people had a debate with journalist Osman Stafa, who is also one of the speakers at the protests that have entered their fourth week.
Stafa has denounced a physical attack against him on Sunday evening in the center of Tirana, stating that the event is directly related to the exercise of his duties as a journalist and to his civic engagement in support of the protest held in the capital. After the incident, Stafa appeared at Police Station No. 3, where he filed a report against two individuals who, according to him, have insulted and physically injured him.
In a direct link to News24, the journalist recounted the details of the incident, saying that at the time of the incident he was in the company of two foreign journalists, an Italian and a Polish one.
"We were marching to catch the crowd. Two people blocked our path, insulting and slightly physically harming me, describing me as a person who does not do my job well. I did not react to this provocation," Stafa declared.
According to him, the people who confronted him were dissatisfied with his reporting and public stances regarding the protest.
"There were two people who were concerned about the reporting and the support I gave to the protest. They knew I was a journalist and they came tearing at me with their nails," he said.
The journalist insisted that the incident is unrelated to the allegations raised by the other side and described the event as a direct attack on his profession.
"I was not accompanied, but I came to the State Police to report the two people. It was a real attack on my duty as a journalist," said Stafa.
During his statement, the journalist revealed that this is not the first time he has faced threats due to his work. He said that he had previously received threatening messages, which he had reported to the authorities.
"I have also received threats in the past that if I appeared before the Oncology Hospital, my life would be in danger. This is the message that I reported some time ago to the State Police," he stated.
Police reaction
In an official announcement, the State Police announced that the incident was reported on June 21, 2026, at around 10:00 PM, near "Skënderbej" Square.
According to the police, immediately after the notification, the services of Police Station No. 3 intervened at the scene, preventing the escalation of the conflict and escorting the people involved to the police station.
Police confirm that journalist Osman Stafa has reported that he was insulted, insulted and scratched by two citizens, identified with the initials ZN and MP, suffering minor injuries.
"Specifically, citizen OS, a journalist, reported that he was cursed at, insulted and scratched by citizens ZN and MP, suffering minor injuries," the official announcement states.
The version of the allegations made by the journalist
Meanwhile, the two citizens involved in the conflict have given a different version of the event.
According to their statements to the police, the conflict began after a verbal argument with the journalist, after the latter, according to them, held them accountable for their absence from the protest held in the city.
This claim has been denied by journalist Stafa, who has publicly stated that there was no such confrontation and that the individuals in question deliberately went towards him to attack him.
Authorities have initiated procedures to fully document the event and clarify the circumstances of the conflict.
The police announce that procedural and investigative actions are being carried out in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office, while the statements of all parties, the testimonies of persons present at the scene, as well as any other evidence that may help in fully elucidating the incident, are expected to be verified.
