Former MP Spartak Braho speaking about the approval of SPAK's request by the Mandates Council, stated that this is not the first time that Sali Berisha's immunity has been revoked.
In an interview for the show "Frontline", he stated that Berisha was stripped of his immunity in 1998 for a coup d'état and that he refused to appear before the commission. Braho emphasized that at that time Sali Berisha was taken by force, adding that he never appeared at the prosecutor's office.
"He holds himself up as a champion of law enforcement. In 1998, the prosecution requested the removal of Sali Berisha's immunity for the coup. I was the chairman of the committee at that time. I called him several times to come over to review. It was a mixed commission. Even one of the most active members was Nikoll Lesi who voted in favor of removing the immunity.
Those from the DP did not stay, they ran away from the commission. We forcibly took Sali Berisha, we communicated to him that the commission has decided to remove his immunity. A measure which was approved by the Assembly that same night. For 4 years, the prosecution called him repeatedly and he never appeared. This is Sali Berisha. I am worried that he will come out and make a mess, that the police will go under the house and threaten me, I jumped from the balcony ", said Braho.
