During the annual report to the Assembly, the Chief Prosecutor General, Olsian Çela, was questioned by the DP MP, Ivi Kaso, regarding Judge Irena Gjoka. Kaso asked whether, according to Çela, the judge had committed a criminal offense by not declaring the sentence.
"This issue was addressed during the reporting of laws. Yes, it is a criminal offense. We have also referred it to the prosecutor's offices of general jurisdiction, where there have been 13 cases of false declarations. There are sanctions for this issue," the chief prosecutor said.
The Prosecutor General said that the verification period of the case of Special Judge Irena Gjoka has no deadline.
"The Special Court results in conviction in Greece. Yes, declaring false data in the decriminalization form constitutes a criminal offense. We send the verification result to the person who requested it. The verification process has no deadline, it is extended whenever necessary. The law requires us to conduct a full verification. In the case in question, the issue is related to the return of responses to letters of inquiry, which are not in our hands," said Çelaj during his report to Parliament.
Gjoka is currently a judge in the trial of former President Ilir Meta, but her request to withdraw from the case was rejected by the President of the GJKKO. She has also been involved in several decision-making in the “Partizani” case, where former Prime Minister Sali Berisha is also a defendant.
