A life-sentenced prisoner has been transferred from the Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions (IEVP) in Peqin to the one in Burrel, after a suspected quantity of narcotics was found during a search.
According to the official announcement of the General Directorate of Prisons, the transfer of the convict with the initials MP was carried out by order of the general director, Adriatik Kupi, for security reasons. The decision came after preliminary information obtained operationally by the structures of the Internal Control Service in the Prison System (SKBB).
During a thorough search upon admission to the Burrel Penitentiary, authorities found a small bag hidden in a sock among the convict's personal belongings. According to official sources, the material is suspected to be narcotics, however its exact nature is expected to be determined by laboratory tests.
"The General Directorate of Prisons announces that, based on preliminary information received operationally by the structures of the Internal Control Service in the Prison System (SKBB), by order of the General Director, Adriatik Kupi, for security reasons, the transfer of the life-sentenced prisoner, with the initials MP, from the Peqin Penitentiary Institution to the Burrel Penitentiary Institution was carried out.
During the thorough search carried out upon admission to the Burrel Penitentiary, a small bag suspected of being narcotics was found in the convict's personal files, hidden in a sock.
"The institution's leaders, the Internal Control Service in the Prison System, and the Burrel Police Commissariat were immediately notified, which has received the material for conducting the relevant expertise.
The event is being followed up according to the legal procedures in force. The General Directorate of Prisons remains engaged in an uncompromising fight against any illegality within the institutions serving sentences," the Prisons Directorate said in a statement.
