Renowned lawyer Saimir Vishaj has announced his candidacy for the position of Ombudsman.
Vishaj said that he is preparing all the necessary documentation to submit within the deadline.
The lawyer stated that he is a serious candidate and above all has no connection to any political party.
Commenting on the other candidacies, the lawyer says that they have been burned at this point because they come from connections with the Democratic Party or the Socialist Party.
Saimir Vishaj says that his motto is 'Nobody is above the law'.
" Seeing the vacancy announcement, I have decided to present my candidacy. 35 years in the justice system are enough for me, it has made me know many friends from all walks of life because I have been one of those who have respected rights and freedoms and I have never seen the political side of the people I have defended. Given my health condition, which I am currently very good, there has been a positive reaction that has made me very enthusiastic, let's see until the end. I always remain a serious candidate to represent the People's Advocate worthily.
No, I have not communicated. I am at a point where the documentation is being submitted to the Laws Committee, then the 28 signatures of the deputies will be obtained because we are moving to the first phase. It remains to be seen whether the documentation meets the criteria based on the law for the institution of the Ombudsman. Then there is a second phase in which the political wings will give their agreement. I have no problem because I have never been a member of any party, nor have I participated in the campaign. I believe that I must also meet this criterion.
I think that the candidacies that have been submitted also have their CV, but when they come from political fields, the People's Advocate is not a political institution. At this point, I think that the other candidates have been burned as candidates for People's Advocate because they have had political connections with left and right-wing entities. In my statements, I have always had only the law. This is my strongest weapon to write about the institution of the People's Advocate, the implementation of the law and with the motto that no one is above the law, this is the principle of my platform that I will present in parliament.
"I just finished all the tests in the US, they came out very well. I won the battle with cancer and I haven't been able to contact anyone. I was only notified about the deadline for submitting the documentation ," said Vishaj.
The position of Ombudsman is currently held by Erinda Balanca, whose mandate has expired in May 2022, but she continues and remains in office to await her successor. The vacancy for the Ombudsman was announced in the previous legislature, while the same procedure was voted on once in the Laws Committee.
