The Court of Appeal has upheld the measure for Ilir Beqaj, the former Minister of Health, and the measures have also been left unchanged for the accused and others, who are suspected of abusing EU funds.
As a person under investigation for corruption, concealment of wealth, fraud and violation of equality in tenders, Beqaj received the status of pre-detainee in July and because of the position he has held as the general director of SASPAK. Through this agency, SPAK suspects that the former official together with the coordinator Ermal Kurtulaj, who is also in prison, as well as five other people, abused the funds of the European Union by alienating their destination
During the marathon session, Ilir Beqaj asked for a mandatory appearance measure or the alternative of a property guarantee in the amount of five million lek. But Beqaj's strongest weapon was a long speech with evidence that during the trial contradicts the evidence of SPAK, which he accuses of deliberately investigating him.
Ilir Beqaj asked to ask SPAK some questions, but the court did not accept, reminding him of his position as a person under investigation, and on the other hand, the stage where the case is not under trial. The other suspect Ermal Kurtulaj asked for the arrest to be lifted not only because according to him there is no evidence but also because there are family reasons for which he must be present at home.
Automatically, the next measure against Beqaj, which is the obligation to submit the sterilization file, has become null, since the former minister is unable to appear before an officer on Fridays as long as his address is now known, it is the detention cell.
The former minister is also a defendant in the GJKKO for the 100 million euro Health concessions, a file for which SPAK has 8 people under accusation, among them the detained former deputy minister Klodian Rrjepaj and businessman Ilir Rrapaj. But for this file, there was no coercive measure against Beqaj and he was pursued in a free state, until the scandal with the agency's funds was discovered.
