The Special Court of Appeals has postponed the hearing against former President Ilir Meta, who is seeking release from prison.
Ilir Meta's lawyer has filed a request for the disqualification of Judge Saida Dollani and the next hearing was scheduled for November 14 at 9:00 AM.
Ilir Meta has been in prison for almost a year and has appealed the security measure. Meanwhile, a preliminary hearing is being held today at the Special Court to determine whether or not the case against him will go to trial.
On August 29, the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime closed the investigations and sent former President Ilir Meta, his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi, the latter's mother Fatime Kryemadhi, Pirro Xhixho and Ema Çoku for trial, as part of the investigation into corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets for the CEZ-DIA affair and lobbying in the US.
The SPAK investigation began in 2019 and expanded in subsequent years based on various reports, which were merged into a single one in 2024.
According to the indictment, Meta is accused of corruption in 3 different cases, 2 of which he committed in collaboration.
The former President is accused of passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials, money laundering, and failure to declare assets.
