Edmond Llabani has been appointed the new director of Durrës prison.
Llabani is a professional in the field of justice and public administration and has extensive experience in managing similar institutions.
Llabani headed the Institution for the Execution of Criminal Sentences in Peqin.
This move came after the Minister of Justice, Besfort Lamallari, signed the dismissal of the director of Durrës Prison, Indrit Cërloj.
The decision came a day after the escape of pre-trial detainee Altin Ndoci while the latter was sent for a medical check-up to the city hospital.
Meanwhile, 8 people from Durrës prison were arrested after Ndoc's escape.
Among those arrested were 5 police officers from the escort group who moved Altin Ndocin from his cell to the hospital in the prison ambulance, in violation of procedures, without handcuffing him, as a free citizen, even though he is accused by SPAK of murder, considered the armed wing of the criminal organization of the Çopjave of Elbasan.
Along with the police officers, the prison's head nurse, Aulon Çuko, who signed the emergency transfer to the hospital, was also in handcuffs.
