The former Minister of the Interior and former general at the same time, Sandër Lleshaj, has spoken about the recent Iran-Israel clashes as well as the possibility that Albania is endangered by Iran, recalling the cyber attacks that Iranian hackers made against our country.
Commenting on Iran's attack on Israel in response to the killing of officials in the Iranian embassy building in Syria, Lleshaj said Israel has no interest in expanding other war fronts. While adding that both countries achieved their goals, Iran presenting footage of the attack for propaganda purposes to the Iranian people and Israel managing to defend itself very efficiently from hundreds of drones and missiles.
"Israel has no interest in opening new fronts while it has an open front with Hamas and Hezbollah or the Houthis in Yemen. I don't believe there would be any reason to open a new front. Moreover, from this clash Israel suffered almost nothing while Iran suffered a lot. However, both sides have reason to be satisfied. Because both achieved their goal. Iran achieved the propaganda goal of saying it did something about the killing of the generals. Iran has some videos to show people that we did an unprecedented attack to feed propaganda. Meanwhile, Israel also has the opportunity to say that it has defended with high efficiency a massive attack. The show looked like a fireworks show" , said Lleshaj for "TopNews".
He further said that if there had been many consequences in Israel from the Iranian attack, then the escalation of the conflict between the two countries would have been inevitable.
"These few hours of confrontation were accompanied by several billion euros of expenses that were thrown into the air within a few hours. Escalation was spared because if we had many victims in Israel, escalation would be guaranteed ," he added.
While talking about the possibility of the Iranian threat to Albania, the former minister said that there is no physical threat to our country, considering the distance, but he emphasized that we must be prepared in terms of cyber attacks and terrorist attacks that may be undertaken from Iran.
"The Iranian level of threat to Albania remains at the hybrid or cyber level due to distance. So what we should be afraid of is cyberspace. We have to be vigilant at the level of hybrid attacks, terrorist attacks and other activities of an agent nature, etc. These are the areas where Albania can calculate risk. The risk of a physical strike from Iran towards Albania is very limited due to the distance. Their ballistic missiles can reach the perimeter of Albania, but I don't believe that this is the extreme of this issue," said Lleshaj.
