After the end of voting and the start of the counting process last midnight, there were tensions between the parties in Tirana's Olympic Park, where votes from the diaspora are being counted.
The Democratic Party has contested the counting of votes from Greece, temporarily halting this process.
The head of the Central Election Commission, Ilirjan Celibashi, who was at the Olympic Park, appeared at a press conference to clarify the situation. He said that decisions on such issues will be made based on the law.
"There cannot be a block assessment of all diaspora votes. 20,000 votes cannot be declared illegal just because someone has an unsubstantiated suspicion," Celibashi declared, while emphasizing that so far the DP has not presented official evidence for its claims.
Celibashi was also asked about the CEC's decision to not publish the results of the electronic voting in real time, but in the early hours of Monday morning.
"Everyone makes their own assessment regarding acts and decision-making, apparently someone lacks the calmness and ability to properly assess all the elements related to an electoral process. Nothing is fishy from the CEC but from politics ," he said.
