In the Special Court of Appeal, the session requested by the former General Secretary of the Ministry of Health Joana Duro and the employee of this ministry, Laureta Sheto, who are under arrest under the charge of passive corruption, took place this Thursday.
Both asked for the relief of the measure, since according to them, the criminal offense does not represent social danger.
Likewise, the defense said that the release or easing of the security measure against them will not lead to destruction or alienation of evidence. However, the Appeal rejected the request of Duro and Sheto, leaving them in prison.
The former secretary and employee of the Ministry of Health denied the accusations against them and stated that they were not aware that there was money in the envelope they received.
Joana Duro, who had been holding this post for a year, was tracked down by SPAK after she was paid 330,000 lek for favoritism in a tender where eight companies were competing.
The amount, according to the official version of the Special Prosecutor's Office, was paid to the general secretary by another state employee, identified as Laureta Sheto, with high-level specialist duties at the Integrated Public Services Agency.
The amount of money, which SPAK emphasizes is an irregular benefit, was seized in the continuation of the operation, in the offices of the general secretary, located in the Ministry of Health.
After their arrest, SPAK also arrested the administrator and the engineer of the company "Dricons" who had paid 330,000 lek in bribes in order to benefit illegally from the tender held at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, with the object "Lot 1". "Supervision for the reconstruction of some Health Centers in Tirana and Durrës".
