Religious leaders in Albania

The Interreligious Council of Albania organized today the symposium on the theme "Together for the Family: Interreligious and Institutional Dialogue", within the framework of the International Day of the Family.

This symposium was attended by leaders of religious communities in the country, representatives of institutions, members of governing boards, as well as representatives of the Departments of Women and Youth.

In his welcoming speech, the President of the Muslim Community of Albania, Bujar Spahiu, emphasized the vital importance of the family in preserving social peace, education, and human and spiritual values.

He stated that the family remains the fundamental institution upon which society is built and that modern challenges require a joint institutional and moral commitment to its protection.

"The family is the place where man first learns the meaning of love, responsibility, sacrifice and respect for others and God. No society has managed to build its peace without peace within the family ," said President Spahiu during his speech.

Following his speech, he also emphasized the responsibility that religious communities have towards Albanian society and the family.

" We, as religious communities, have the responsibility not only to talk about the family, but to be close to it, close to young people, parents, the elderly, close to those who feel lonely, insecure or lost in a rapidly changing time ," he said.

Following the activity, representatives of the Executive Board of the Interfaith Council discussed family values in religious traditions and the role of religious communities in supporting the Albanian family.

Then, a panel discussion organized by the Department of Women and Youth took place, where representatives from religious communities addressed topics related to immigration and its impact on family structure, the challenges of technology in family relationships, education and the role of parenting, as well as the need to strengthen the role of women in family stability.

We recall that this meeting comes at a time when LGBTQI community activists have consistently demanded the right to formalize same-sex relationships.
