The forensic laboratory in Albania is unable to obtain a genetic profile from the heart organ that was removed from Saimir Sula in a hospital in Spain, where he died.
The heart organ, which was brought to Albania after 3 years of efforts by the victim's sister, has been kept in formalin, and in order to obtain the DNA, it must be denatured, a process that is not carried out in the forensic laboratory in our country.
Regarding this fact, the sister of Saimir Sula, Majlinda Sula, addressed the Ministry of Justice with a letter on the acceleration of the procedure so that this procedure can be carried out abroad.
In the letter, it is emphasized that any delay is to the detriment of discovering the truth and bringing justice to the deceased brother.
" Following the written communications and specifically our request dated 14.12.2023, in which we asked you to speed up the procedures to make it possible to carry out the expertise act as soon as possible, we are addressing you with this request for information to be informed about this procedure.
The act of expertise in order to obtain a biological sample to determine the genetic profile (DNA) of the deceased Saimir Sula, is a procedure which will be carried out in a laboratory outside the Republic of Albania. As we have emphasized earlier, this process has an urgent character and every day that passes is detrimental to the discovery of the truth and justice.
We emphasize that time is the most important circumstance in such processes and the delay in time would make it impossible to discover the truth about the late Saimir Sula. Given that the Ministry of Justice is the institution responsible for coordination and written communication with institutions or laboratories outside Albania, we request information on what is happening with this procedure so important to us, what has happened so far and what are the other steps that are expected happen.
Therefore, taking into account the above, based on Article 12 of Law No. 55/2018 "On the profession of lawyer in the Republic of Cyprus" and Article 3 of Law No. 119/2014 "On the right to information", finally,
WE REQUEST:
Information regarding the process of carrying out the expert act to determine the genetic profile for the deceased Saimir Sula ", the letter states.
