Socialist Party MPs have reacted to the passing of former Prime Minister Fatos Nano. Through posts on social media, they have expressed their condolences to the family, as well as appreciated his contribution to Albania and the Socialist Party.
Damian Gjiknuri : "With his liberal model, he led the Socialist Party and the Albanian left as a whole, turning it into a healthy, modern and progressive political force. As head of government, Fatos Nano led the country in difficult moments, when the state had to be resurrected, brought to its knees in all its links. A man of battles and strong decisions, as well as compromises and agreements as the most effective means of doing politics. Sincere condolences to family, friends and well-wishers!
Ulsi Manja : There are politicians who represent the time they live in and there are others who represent eras. Fatos Nano was the dividing line between two worlds: where the fear of communism ended and the debate about democracy began. Farewell, Chairman!

The unwavering patriot who gave dignity and reputation to Albanianness. He was a man with an extraordinary collaborative spirit where revenge could never find space.
Albania and the socialist left lost a distinguished personality and an unparalleled missionary. Fatos Nano, at the head of an intellectual and idealistic team, made history in the fight for democracy, in the conditions of the extension of a fascist-type dictatorship of the years 92-97. May the leadership of his time be a further inspiration for the Socialist Party and democracy in Albania! Farewell, our Fatos!
Niko Peleshi : Farewell, Fatos Nano! A few moments ago, Fatos Nano, the politician who dominated an entire era of Albanian political life, the founder and visionary leader of the Socialist Party until 2005, passed away. For me personally, Fatos Nano remains the figure who opened the doors of politics to me, entrusting me with my first public responsibility, at that time an invitation to a new generation to build together the Albania that we all dreamed of. He had that rare ability to give people space to prove themselves in the service of the country.
But the figure of Fatos Nano transcends any personal experience. For Albanian politics, he remains the modern politician who brought the true European spirit to our public environment. He was the intellectual who knew how to speak the language of ideas, the liberal who believed in individual freedom and economic development, the convinced Europeanist who saw Albania's future only in the great European family. At a time when many still thought with the mindsets of the past, he spoke of the future. For the Albanian left, Fatos Nano is the architect of historical transformation. He built the new left on the sound foundations of European social democracy, doing what seemed almost impossible, keeping it afloat at a time when the thread on which it hung was extremely thin. He had the courage to break dogmas, the vision to see beyond the crises of the moment and the strength to build a political movement that could govern and modernize the country.
History will judge his contribution fairly. We who had the privilege of knowing him, listening to him and working alongside him, know that Albania lost today one of the greatest figures of its post-communist politics. Unforgettable, Fatos Nano!
