The Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja has reacted on the chaos that happened in Peqin prison. Sokol Mjacaj killed one prisoner and wounded another, an unprecedented event within a prison environment.
Manja went to Peqin herself and in a statement to the media said that the situation is under control and the safety of the staff has not been compromised at any time.
“I want to guarantee the families of the convicts that the situation is under control. The author of this event is a person sentenced to life imprisonment, who was serving this sentence and after committing the crime, he was handed over to justice.
The author has made himself available to the institutions of justice. The event is serious, but for no moment there was any harm to the lives of our staff. nFor other details, we have to wait for the result of the investigation.
Regarding the dynamics of the event, it is a matter that belongs to the investigation and I do not want to harm any element of the investigation.
After the author is interrogated, there will be a press release, as far as the investigation allows", said Manja, among other things.
Asked about the order to place all prisons in the country in high security, Manja said that this event has accelerated the order, which according to him is a practice that takes place every year on the eve of the holidays.
Manja emphasized that the situation of order and security is under control and that in the coming days there will be other dangerous prisoners who will be placed in the special "41biss" regime.
“It is true that all prisons were switched to high security. This event accelerated the issuance of the order to increase the level of readiness in the country's prisons, because it is a practice that is done every year on the eve of the holidays. This event certainly accelerated the issuing of this order.
All the family members of the convicts in our institutions should calm down, this is a serious event, but the situation of order and security is under control. The last one regarding the special regime, the procedures have started since yesterday, the first two have been established and there will be others who will be established in the regime in the following days", he said.
