
The activity of Albanian drug networks was on the rise in Greece during 2022, estimates a recent report of the Greek Anti-Drug Police Department.
According to the report, more than 40% of the cannabis blocked in Greece in 2022 came from Albania, while Albanian networks are second only to Greek ones in the traffic and distribution of heroin and cocaine.
"According to the Greek anti-drug report, 56.60% of those accused as members of Organized Criminal Groups in the field of narcotics were Greek citizens, followed by Albanians with 26%, Pakistanis with 3%, etc."
The total amount of cannabis, processed and unprocessed, seized in 2022 in Greece was 6.2 tons, while about 2.5 tons (40.28%) was identified as coming from Albania", says the report of the Greek Antidrug.
According to the report, raw cannabis was imported into Greece, mainly through the land border with Albania in vehicles adapted to hide the amount of the narcotic substance.
According to the data of the Greek anti-drug agency, about 1.6 tons of cannabis was blocked in the border areas of Greece with Albania, while the rest is further inside the Greek territory.
During 2022, 885 Albanian citizens were arrested in Greece for criminal offenses in the transport and distribution of cannabis, out of 748 who were arrested in 2021.
Albanian networks are also active in the trafficking and distribution of heroin, where Albanian citizens made up 19% of members of criminal groups, ranked after Greek citizens who made up 68% of criminal groups.
The total amount of heroin seized in 2022 in Greece was 139.71 kilograms, marking a decrease of 61.66% compared to 2021, while the value of the seized amounts of heroin if the drug were to be sold on the market was estimated at over 2.6 million euros .
Even in cocaine trafficking and distribution, Albanians made up 31% of the members of organized criminal groups, ranked second after the Greeks, who made up about 57% of the arrested perpetrators.
The total amount of cocaine seized in 2022 in Greece was 899,688 kilograms, marking a decrease of 17.14%, compared to 2021. "However, the quantities of cocaine seized remain high for the fourth consecutive year for the levels of Greece ”, evaluates the report of the Greek anti-drug agency.
The seized cocaine was found to come to Greece to the greatest extent (60.77%) directly from Latin American countries and containers loaded with bananas were used as means of transport.
The value of the cocaine seized in Greece, if it were to be sold on the criminal market, is estimated at over 76.5 million euros.
