TikTok shutdown, Constitutional Court rejects request to suspend decision

The Constitutional Court has agreed to review the government's decision to block TikTok in the country, but rejected the request made by the Association of Journalists of Albania. As the case is being reviewed in a public session, the AGSH, the National Authority for Cybersecurity and the National Agency for Information Society are interested parties.

Regarding today's decision, June 4, the Journalists' Association of Albania has reacted, emphasizing that banning a public communication platform without transparency and proportional assessment of its impact constitutes a dangerous precedent for fundamental freedoms in the country.

"The Association of Journalists of Albania (AGSH) welcomes the decision of the meeting of judges of the Constitutional Court to consider in a public plenary session our joint request with partner organizations to declare as unconstitutional the decision no. 151 of 06.03.2025 of the Council of Ministers, which prohibits the use of the TikTok platform in Albania. This is an important step in protecting freedom of expression and the right to information, guaranteed by the Constitution of Albania and the European Convention on Human Rights ," the AGSH response further states.
