"With this much money, we could have built hundreds of camps in Italy," Renzi accuses Meloni: Besides friendship with Rama, why were these centers built?

Former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi is visiting the Gjadri camp in Lezha.

In a statement to the media, Renzi said that the Gjadri camp should be used as a center where Albanians convicted by Italian justice can serve their sentences.

According to him, such a step would be a relief for the Italian prison system and would help Albanian prisoners be closer to their families.

He further accused Meloni, stating that with the amount of money spent on the Gjadri camp, we could build hundreds of such centers in Italy.

"We think it's right to come here to tell Italians, look where your money is being spent."

Through an agreement with the Albanian state, the centers of Gjadri and Shëngjin will be turned into prisons for Albanians serving sentences in Italy.

We are here to give a clear message. We have also articulated this idea in the Italian Parliament.

"With that much money in Italy, we could build hundreds of such centers. Apart from the Meloni-Rama friendship, what is the reason these centers were built?" he said.
