Preç Zogaj says that the criticism of Ismail Kadare, more about his life than about his work, happened because "the mind of Albanians has a sectarian format".
Invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, Zogaj said that Albania would rather have Ismail Kadare than one more prisoner in the dictatorship.
"We judged it because the mind of Albanians has a sectarian format. You see it through the lens of biography. You don't judge what, but who. Enlightened thought in the west or even in the east, when the end comes, it judges what you brought and not who you are. They are related, but if you brought something of value, it means you are someone of value.
There's a lot going on here because there aren't even a lot of critical filters. We have scholars, but no hierarchy of inviolable values has been created to argue for anyone. Paul Johnson says that great people are like us in the manifestation of human weaknesses, but we are not like them in the manifestation of talent and genius. This is the difference. If we go into every person we will find everything.
I had this view, Kadare had a duty, to be the guardian of his gift. The writer early gains awareness of his worth. Migjeni has been aware of how talented he is. The writer gains consciousness in an X period.
