Lawyer Spartak Ngjela said that the leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, had sought political asylum in Hungary, before he was arrested at the request of SPAK.
Ngjela said that on the day of his arrest, Meta was returning from Kosovo, to then go to Hungary, but returned to Albania again after Budapest accepted his request for political asylum.
"He had asked for political asylum in Hungary and Budapest had not given it to him, that's why he was in Kosovo to go there and he returned. It is within the international rules, he went to Kosovo, he asked for political asylum and Budapest did not give him political asylum" , said Ngjela for "RTSH".
Former president Ilir Meta was put in handcuffs on Monday, October 21, while he is charged with 3 charges, corruption, non-declaration and concealment of assets and money laundering. Meta was left in "prison custody" by the GJKKO, while for his wife, Monika Kryemadhi, the security measure "obligation to appear" was imposed. The same measure was decided for Pirro Xixho and Kryemadhi's friend, Ema Çoku.
