The Catholic Church in Italy has reacted a few hours after the approval by the Italian Senate of the Albania-Italy agreement for immigrants.
Catholic Archbishop Giancarlo Perego , president of the "Migrantes" foundation, which provides support for immigrants and refugees, expressed his strong opposition to the agreement.
"673 million euros will be thrown into the sea due to the impossibility of building a refugee reception system in our country. 673 million euros can regenerate not only the lives of many people, but also the lives of our communities. A waste of public resources. A new government incompetence act to control migration. A new defeat of democracy. ", said the archbishop.
We remind you that the Italian senate has given the green light to the bill for the ratification of the Italy-Albania protocol with 93 votes in favor and 61 against. In the two structures in Lezhë, with a total capacity of 3 thousand immigrants, the immigrants rescued in the waters outside the EU will be kept and the first control will be carried out, according to what was reported by the Italian executive in the parliament.
The approval was strongly opposed yesterday by the Italian opposition, according to which the project is the result of the Meloni government's propaganda, which violates the human rights of immigrants and will cost around 650 million euros.
