
Inflation returned to growth in March. According to the Institute of Statistics, from 1.9%, which was inflation in the first month of the year, it went to 2.1% in March. The main impact was also given by food. The foods that became more expensive than dairy are eggs, vegetables including potatoes, but also meat.
Of the 2.1% inflation referred to in the report, half came solely due to the rise in food prices, followed by home furnishings.
"The annual price increase in March was mainly influenced by the group "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" with +1.04 percentage points, followed by the group "Furniture, household equipment and home maintenance" with +0.26 percentage points ," says INSTAT.
Meanwhile, compared to March of last year, food prices increased by an average of 4.4%, with dairy and eggs becoming more expensive within the food group by 4.6%, according to INSTAT.
The bird flu outbreak had an impact, causing the price of eggs to rise rapidly by almost 8 lekë, after nearly 1 million eggs were destroyed. Vegetables also became more expensive in March, as their prices increased by 4%.
"Within the food group, the prices of the subgroup "milk, cheese and eggs" increased by 4.6%, followed by the subgroups "vegetables including potatoes" by 4.0%, "meat" by 3.3%, "sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets" by 1.2%, "fish" by 0.1%," the INSTAT report states.
